Rowling’s Harry Potter-inspired The Tales of Beedle the Bard lands on bookstore shelves today sending salivating fans queuing up for a copy of the five stories that guided Harry Ron and Hermione through Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Borders and Barnes & Noble haven’t seen lines like this since the August release of Breaking Dawn the record-breaking fourth installment in Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. The vampire romance has stolen some of Potter’s magical thunder—as well as the hearts of fan(g)girls—at the bookstore and at the box office; Twilight cashed in after taking over the release date.

Revised ‘Harry Potter’ encyclopedia to be released

(AP) — A “Harry Potter” fan and Web site operator says he’s going ahead with publishing an encyclopedia after losing a lawsuit against the author of the massively popular book series. Steven Vander Ark says Muskegon Michigan-based RDR Books will publish his “Harry Potter Lexicon” on January 12. It is a 400-page unauthorized guide to the seven novels written by J. Rowling and is a print version of the online encyclopedia Vander Ark launched in 2000.

Photograph: PR The almanack which has been published every year since 1864 when it was founded by the famous cricketer John Wisden (”The Little Wonder”) is known throughout cricket for its mixture of comprehensive statistics features and opinion pieces. Bloomsbury described it as “synonymous with cricket”. Wisden has been in the hands of the Getty family for the past 15 years. It was bought by the late billionaire philanthropist Sir Paul Getty in 1993 and has been owned by his son Mark since his death in 2003. In 2006 the cricket bible had its biggest ever sale passing the 50000 mark.

Local publisher revamps will publish Harry Potter ‘Lexicon’
Muskegon Chronicle – MLive.com MI
Rowling the soon-to-be-published lexicon has a cover that appears to be one big nod to copyright. “An Unauthorized Guide to Harry Potter Fiction and Related Materials” appears boldly below “The Lexicon” title and above author Steve Vander Ark’s name. A full paragraph on the otherwise sparse cover further details the fact that neither Rowling nor a host of others with trademarks and other interests in the Harry Potter series had any part in the book. That leaves Vander Ark of Cutlerville to quibble with publisher Roger Rapaport about the color of the title’s typeface. “Lavender’s not my color” Vander Ark told Rapaport Thursday when the two gathered at Northshore Books in North Muskegon to discuss the long-anticipated release of the reference guide. After all the two have been through to get “The Lexicon” published the color of the title seems a trivial side issue.
