My journey with Harry Potter series
Merinews, India
I had started with the Nancy Drew series. I first heard of Harry Potter from my cousin, when I was 14 years old. My first thought was – What is this now? Who Harry? Who Hermione? What Voldemort? [I mean Harry, Ron, Hermione are okay but what parent would name their child - Voldemort (Tom Riddle thing was not known then), Hagrid Dumbledore, the list is never-ending] on the other hand, she (my cousin) was all so excited, and recounted the whole first part to me. I was amazed plus amused, as to how could someone be so excited and feel so much for a book and its characters?
When I returned home, Harry Potter was forgotten and what remained was a strange name Voldemort.
Books v2.0

Books are special in a way that newspapers, it seems, are not. Burn a copy of the New York Times outside the Vancouver Public Library and people will stop to warm their hands. Flick your Bic under a copy of Sons and Lovers, The Satanic Verses or any of the thrilling adventures of Harry Potter and you might well be curb stomped. Certainly you will be verbally abused and inevitably labelled a Nazi by people wearing hemp shirts. “Ten years ago people thought that the cookbook would die with millions of recipes available online,” Broadhurst said. “Who would walk out their door to get a cookbook?”"But people still love the idea of a beautifully made, illustrated book. “”From the time you are a child and you curl up with your parent and read Goodnight Moon, you have a special bond with books,” he said.
Harry Potter: Minister wants to resurrect Latin in schools
Scotland on Sunday, UK
Education Secretary Fiona Hyslop last night announced her support for the “dead” language to be resuscitated in classrooms in a move which would see children as young as nine studying the language and culture of ancient Rome. Hyslop, who herself sADVERTISEMENTtudied classics at school, believes teaching Latin will give youngsters a better understanding of their own language as well as making it easier to learn French and Spanish. And with JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books making Latin more popular than ever with children, as the boy wizard casts his spells in the ancient language, there is an appetite for learning among pupils. Teachers and politicians last night welcomed the move but warned Hyslop would have to find extra funds to help colleges train classics teachers and councils employ them. Although Latin remains an optional subject on the school curriculum in Scotland, its popularity has dwindled over the past decade. This summer, the numbers of pupils sitting Higher Latin fell to just 826, with only a quarter of candidates coming from state schools. South of the border Latin is already enjoying a renaissance.
High School Musical 3 beats Potters advance sales record
Thaindian.com, Thailand
The 21-year-olds third sequel has reportedly gathered advance ticket sales of over a million pounds, much more than the Harry Potter movie. The High School mania has further been extended to the stores with its merchandise selling almost instantly. A kids shop Adams was emptied of its stock within the first few hours of going on sale online and is said to have repeated its orders by 40 percent to cope with the soaring demands. The demand is phenomenal, the Daily star quoted marketing head Mark Anderson as saying. High School Musical products including T-shirts and undies are flying off shelves, he added.

Eagle Mtn. residents recreate wizarding world
Daily Herald, UT
Residents of the Saddleback and Liberty Farms subdivisions are putting on a very special Halloween celebration, creating the world of Harry Potter for trick-or-treaters. Muggles and wizards alike can tour such places as the Forbidden Forest, Azkaban Prison or Madame Puddifoot’s Tea Shop. In all, organizers expect to have about 20 homes decorated. So far, you can visit the Daily Prophet and meet Rita Skeeter, find at gag at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, pick up a drink at the Three Broom Sticks, or do your detentions in Snape’s potions classroom or Professor Umbridge’s office. It all started four years ago when several friends were sitting around, talking about Harry Potter.
