Rowling cries foul over Potter book
Toronto Star - Feb 29, 2008
In papers filed for a lawsuit in Manhattan, J. Rowling says she feels betrayed by a fan, Steven Vander Ark, for his role in trying to publish an unauthorized reference work, âHarry Potter Lexicon. ââ Ark is editor of a website containing a fan-created collection of essays and encyclopedic material on the Potter universe, including lists of spells and potions found in the books, a catalog of magical creatures and a whoâs who in the wizarding world…
âI am deeply troubled by the portrayal of my efforts to protect and preserve the copyrights I have been granted in the Harry Potter books,â she wrote in court papers filed Wednesday in a lawsuit she brought against the small Muskegon, Mich. She said she intends to publish her own definitive Harry Potter encyclopedia. âIf RDRâs position is accepted, it will undoubtedly have a significant, negative impact on the freedoms enjoyed by genuine fans on the Internet,â she said. âAuthors everywhere will be forced to protect their creations much more rigorously, which could mean denying well-meaning fans permission to pursue legitimate creative activities. ââ She added: âI find it devastating to contemplate the possibility of such a severe alteration of author-fan relations. ââ RDR Books attorney Lizbeth Hasse said Thursday that Rowling is seeking a monopoly over the work, which is not part of copyright law.

com StaffWe know him best as Harry Potter, but after five films as the bespectacled wizard, Daniel Radcliffe finally had the chance to break away from the franchise for an Australian indie film called December Boys. The coming-of-age story centers on Maps [Radcliffe] and his three friends who live in a Catholic orphanage in Australia. When the Reverend Mother decides to send the December birthday boys on holiday, the foursome can’t wait to reach the seaside. Soon, their long-awaited vacation takes a turn when they meet a young couple unable to have children. While the younger boys fight for their attention, Maps focuses his affections on a young woman from up the coast…
Being the first love scene that I had ever done it was not exactly imposing but you were aware and going “Oh God what do I do, what don’t I do. ” So just stuff like that really and luckily Teresa [Palmer] was very, very good at helping me to just chill out and just have a love for it, that’s what it is about. **SPOILER ALERT! Plot secrets from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows are revealed beyond this point** HW: Did you get a chance to read the last Harry Potter book? Did you start at the epilogue? DR: I did indeed. No, I didn’t go straight to the epilogue, that’s what my grandmother does. HW: What did you think? DR: In terms of the ending of the book, I was thrilled.

I’m committed to catching up one movie a weekend now that things are out on demand. Last weekend I watched "Ratatouille" (liked it a lot). This weekend I can’t even decide on a genre I want to see! My choices are- "Michael Clayton," "Harry Potter," "Borne Ultimatum," "Superbad" and "Waitress. " What would you watch this weekend?Desson Thomson: Indecision-ville — what a place to live. So many of us live there too. I would say that (and without being wishy-washy, or "everyone wins in kids soccer" about it), all of those movie in their own different ways are entertaining…
I would say that (and without being wishy-washy, or "everyone wins in kids soccer" about it), all of those movie in their own different ways are entertaining. Although I liked the latest Harry Potter the second least of the series this time around. (The first one was the worst, I think. )_______________________Arlington, Va. : Hey Desson, any word on "The Bank Job"?Desson Thomson: Yes, I am writing it right now. The review, that is, not the movie.
