Potter stars to stay with movies
BBC News – Mar 24, 2007
Radcliffe, 17, Rupert Grint, 18, and Emma Watson, 16, made their debuts as young wizards in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in 2001. Warner Brothers chief Jeff Robinov said it would be "inconceivable" to have anybody else in the roles. Radcliffe’s role was confirmed by the studio earlier this month, but it had been rumoured Watson would not return. The trio have appeared in four movies, and will star in the fifth Potter film, The Order of the Phoenix, in July. The final two films, to be based on JK Rowling’s books, will follow suit – The Half-Blood Prince, scheduled for release in November 2008, and The Deathly Hallows.

Falconer said the long-running attempt to bridge the gap between rich and poor countries, and net farm exporters and importers, appeared on the brink of running out of steam. “The danger is energy just running out,” he told journalists at WTO headqaurters.

For the college drop-out who still struggles with a stutter and spent years daydreaming of becoming a writer as he tended fields of cabbages, has become the latest – and most unlikely – publishing sensation. He has secured a £1 million-plus book deal that could make his fictional hero, Skulduggery Pleasant, a household name to rival J. Rowling’s Harry Potter. “Thirty-two is probably a reasonable time to leave home,” said Mr Landy as he reflected on his unpromising career path before landing HarperCollins’s biggest global children’s book deal. The first of three books will be launched next month to worldwide fanfare.
