Wizard News – Dec 24, 2006
html>Permalink]Just a quick personal note on this Christmas Eve. We all got a wonderful surprise Christmas present this year, the title of Harry Potter Book 7. I didn’t even realize it until a few days after it happened, but the surprise gift turned out to be even more wonderful for me. I just noticed on Friday as I typed it for the first time, that that the shorthand of the final Harry Potter book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be DH.

Separate Visions, Shared Passion
Washington Post – Dec 24, 2006
They somehow keep that relationship they had early on the same, even now that they’re major players. "Indeed, one could argue that the very reason they’re major players is that they’ve listened to each other — and in the process fiercely protected each other’s singular vision. It was Del Toro who gave Cuarón the idea for the climactic scene of "Y Tu Mama Tambien" and who persuaded a skeptical Cuarón, fresh from that success, to direct "Harry Potter. " By the same token, Cuarón has served as producer for "The Devil’s Backbone" and "Pan’s Labyrinth," in the latter case investing his own money and later forfeiting his salary to make sure the movie was made. Frida Torresblanco, who runs Cuarón’s production company, Esperanto Films, was in Spain hiring crew for "Pan’s Labyrinth" when Cuarón said he would pony up pre-production funds. "His lawyers were like, ‘Why do you guys want to do this movie? Are you crazy?’ Everybody was so concerned — agents, everyone around the two of them. And Alfonso said, ‘Just tell them I’m so curious to see what is in Guillermo’s head.

The three books have made a fortune around the world from sales alone, before you even begin to look at royalties generated as a result of kids' meals at popular burger joints and film rights etc. Roly-Poly told our Arts Correspondent:"I've been well done up here. Fleming found the manuscripts when I left them on a train several years ago and he's had my ideas lock stock and barrel. Well I want what's mine and I'm going to get it!"A spokesman for Ian Fleming said:"My client's saying nothing over this but consider this if you will.

Rowling said she was considering. These reports are false; a representative for Jo said the titles were "never contenders" for Harry Potter 7.

, attracting tourists as well as locals wanting to take their children on a “Day Out With Thomas” (the tank engine); to dress up for a night out on a deluxe dinner train; or to just sit back and listen to the hissing and puffing of a steam engine and the shrill notes of a whistle. Offering passengers a ticket to any era ranging from the 1890s to the mid-1950s, many of these railways have been used to create instant authenticity for any number of films and TV shows, including Harry Potter movies, “Brideshead Revisited” and the classic “The Railway Children. ”For Americans traveling to the U. who begin their journeys in London, the closest choice for such time travel is the Bluebell, about 30 miles south from Victoria Station by connecting train and shuttle bus, and just 12 miles east of Gatwick Airport.

Whatâ’s Wrong With Cinderella?
New York Times – Dec 24, 2006
“Why are you so mad, Mama?” she asked. “What’s wrong with princesses?”
Diana may be dead and Masako disgraced, but here in America, we are in the midst of a royal moment. To call princesses a “trend” among girls is like calling Harry Potter a book. Sales at Disney Consumer Products, which started the craze six years ago by packaging nine of its female characters under one royal rubric, have shot up to $3 billion, globally, this year, from $300 million in 2001. There are now more than 25,000 Disney Princess items. “Princess,” as some Disney execs call it, is not only the fastest-growing brand the company has ever created; they say it is on its way to becoming the largest girls’ franchise on the planet. Meanwhile in 2001, Mattel brought out its own “world of girl” line of princess Barbie dolls, DVDs, toys, clothing, home d?r and myriad other products.

Owen brightens film’s bleak future
Washington Times – Dec 24, 2006
No, it’s that rare combination of intelligence and sensuality that makes him utterly compelling no matter the role, whether it’s the writer turned “Croupier” in the 1998 film that made his career or the cynical bureaucrat of the future in “Children of Men. ” Oh, right, the future. Cuaron (”Y Tu Mama Tambien” and “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”), it’s a scary place. This dystopian science fiction piece takes place in London of 2027. No children have been born for 18 years. Humanity has all but lost hope.

  2. [...] Murky future in House for Senate housing fix – Apr. 8, 2008CNN – Apr 8, 2008Currently, only homeowners who itemize can take that deduction. But the deduction in Rangel’s bill is capped at $350 for single filers and $700 for joint filers, below the $500 and $1,000 thresholds proposed by the Senate. Rangel’s proposal also includes a measure letting states issue an additional $10 billion in tax-free municipal bonds, the proceeds of which may be used to subsidize mortgage refinancing for subprime borrowers trying to get out of unaffordable loans. Under current law, state and local housing agencies are only allowed to issue tax-free bonds to help subsidize mortgages for first-time home buyers or those purchasing property in distressed areas. Rangel has also included provisions that would offset the cost of his proposal. Chief among them is an idea the Bush administration supports: requiring stock brokers to report to the IRS the cost basis of investment when a client sells stock. That change is estimated to raise $8 billion.Related: Owen brightens film’s bleak future [...]
