This event is organized by a middle-aged “children’s pastor” named Becky Fisher, a woman whose roly-poly likeability in no way obscures her steely religious determination. Fisher of course shares the Pentacostal antipathy toward abortion, homosexuality, the theory of evolution and political liberalism in just about every form. (Not to mention the Harry Potter books: “Warlocks are an enemy of God,” she says. “If it had been in the Old Testament, Harry Potter would have been put to death!”) And she’s militant about spreading her particular version of The Word through an America that’s adrift on a sea of religious and political permissiveness. The problem with democracy, she says, is that “we have to give everyone equal freedom, and ultimately that’s gonna destroy us.

“When the first Potter movie began production in 2000, my administration approached the principal cast members regarding contracts to reprise their roles for the duration of the series,” Clinton told the Fox News Channel’s Chris Wallace this week. story continues below
He angrily continued: “You’ve got that little smirk on your face, and you think you’re so clever, Chris, but look — no intelligence agency in the world knew for certain back then if there would be one sequel, let alone six. If ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,’ had flopped, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion. ”
Clinton’s contention that the fledgling Bush administration didn’t aggressively pursue long-term deals for the Potter cast in 2001 prior to the movie’s blockbuster opening weekend was sharply rebuked by Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice. “To blame President Bush for this is ludicrous. We were not left a comprehensive strategy by the Clinton administration to lock up the cast for the entire series,” she said. Rice added: “Emma Watson was 11 years old when the first Potter movie was released, and she will be about 20 when the series finally concludes.
