Fans who are anxiously waiting for the seventh and final Harry Potter book sent Rowling everything from a single sheet of paper to entire notepads. A paper merchant even delivered a set of notebooks embossed with the author’s name. Rowling says she now has “enough paper to write several book sevens”. Speaking about the paper shortage on her website last month the author explained that she prefers to use a pen and paper to draft her novels rather than a computer… Fans who are anxiously waiting for the seventh and final Harry Potter book sent Rowling everything from a single sheet of paper to entire notepads. New Line Cinema confirmed yesterday that Tucker was no longer involved and that Weitz a Hollywood film maker who made About a Boy was now back on board. Student numbers are holding up well class sizes are smaller than ever and the long-term decline in boarding has not only levelled out but is even showing signs of growth (and not just because of the appeal of Harry Potter). But there are some underlying trends that are less rosy. Some leading members of the independent sector are now warning against complacency. This week saw publication of the 2006 census from the Independent Schools Council which covers over 80% of all pupils in independent fee-charging schools in the UK. Overall pupil numbers were up from 504141 last year to 505450 this year.
